Hi!
So after an hour and a half flight to Baltra Island, approximately 600 miles west over the Pacific Ocean, we disembarked and went through the formalities of entering Galapagos National Park. There is a $100 US entry fee per person. From there we took a short bus trip to catch a small ferry over the to island of Santa Cruz (there are 13 larger islands and 6 smaller islands). Of course Dwayne somehow missed the boat so that was a good laugh. It seems to run in the male side of the family.
We got on another bus and drove up to the highlands for lunch. The change in the landscape on the way is quite dramatic. It was one of those tucked away places that you would probably never find unless you were a local (our guide lives on Santa Cruz). The food was fantastic.
We are with a wide mix of nationalities and world travellers so I am learning lots and rapidly expanding my bucket list of adventures!
We pretty much spent the rest of the day exploring the Charles Darwin Research station and Puerta Ayora. It is a site dedicated to restoring the tortoise which was almost extinct due to slaughter for food by pirates etc. It has been very successful.
Boarded the S/S Mary Anne and set off the island of Isabella. The sea was rough and many people were seasick (about half of the 16). We travelled 13 hours to get to our next landing spot. The boat is fantastic!
