Today was day one of our itinerary we had planned for the remainder of our time in shanghai. We woke up naturally around 8 o'clock which is very unlike us, however the heat in the room is ridiculous. The air con won't go any lower than 25 which leaves you sweating during the night! It's tres gross. We showered and hit the road in search of the 'mr bean cafe'. On the way there Mel grabbed noodles for her breakfast and I picked up a lovely tuna and sweet corn flatbread from a bakery! Delicious! The two hour search for the mr bean cafe begun once breakfast was demolished. It was hideous. Mels map wasn't really accurate we found out and we had every Chinese Person in Shanghai trying to help us. I knew by the second hour even if we did find it it was going to be a massive let down. But nonetheless we carried on.
After another hour we gave up on that and I grabbed an iced coffee and Mel grabbed a bubble tea. Mine was 8 yuan and a quarter of the price you would pay for a Starbucks but far more delicious. I was happy! We then got on the sightseeing bus and it was a laugh. We took shanghai selfies which are always good fun, then listened to the audio guide. It was hilarious. At one point it was saying 'and to the right is the most mystical river in all of shanghai'. To the right was actually a building site haha. Worth the money eh? The tour took us to the bund which I really wanted to see. It's basically the view of shanghai over the river with all of the tallest buildings. I absolutely loved it! It was incredible looking. I could have happily spent all day sitting by the river with a book on a bench. It was time to get back on to the tour however as the heat was incredible. I think it reached 45 degrees. Mel and I were downing litres of water to keep hydrated but you instantly sweat it back out again. It's a nightmare!
We hopped on the bus and it took us the 'temple of god'. My god what a joke. It was the biggest tourist trap I have ever seen. The only thing godly about it was the candy shop inside! People were running up to us saying 'lady you buy watch? Handbag?' . Turns out there was no temple, just a shopping mall in the shape of a temple for locals to try and Rob you! Back on the bus and we were headed for home, when all of a sudden Mel shouts 'oh my god the bean cafe!'. There it was. I was beginning to detest mr bean. As the next bus stop was ages away we ended up staying on for a whole loop. When we finally got there, it was s***, as expected. We posed for a couple of
Photos beside the mr bean posters, then left!
Back on the bus and we headed back for food. We found a little place to eat near our hostel and we ordered rice, Kung pow chicken and beef and veg. It was tasty! We then headed back to the hostel and hung out. I talked to Kyle which was great. Sadly skype wasn't working but hopefully I can skype him soon. I listened to some music in the lounge while Mel went to bed. When I finally faded I went to the room and there was a new guy there. His name is theo and he is from France. He has been travelling for 3 months now and is about to meet his girlfiend in xian so he's pretty excited! We advised him on where is good in xian and then headed to bed for day two of our planned itinerary!
