This morning I woke up relatively early and chilled in bed for a bit. At 10.30 I had a peek out the window and realised it was beautiful. A quick weather check told me it was 38 degrees! That will do just fine. I took a nice long shower and got ready and headed up to the rooftop. I collected and folded all of me and mels washing then chatted to uncle lee a bit. I got to speak to Monica too which was nice! She seems really excited about her wedding; the new Mrs O! I hope they have a blast. I went back into the room and Mel was still snoozing so I decided I didnt want to waste the day and I headed out. I purchased an extra room key as we only have one and if I took it poor Mel wouldn't be able to do anything! I left the hostel and went exploring. The Porsche and range rover buildings are right beside our diggs so I had a prolonged window shop through them. One day I will own a white range Rover, one day! Haha. I then was walking down the Main Street and some Chinese guy who was clearly mental started taking to me. He asked me where I was from and replied 'northern Ireland', to which he said 'oh like a nice fairy' . What the hell. I swiftly got him away by saying I was in a hurry, and thanks for introducing himself, but seeya later!
I dandered through shanghai food court and it was class! It was a luxurious food hall like the one in harrods, nothing I could ever afford but still tasty! :0) However, After seeing raw Squid I thought it was time to get out! I then just walked through some wee side streets, enjoying the sun. The heat really was intense, I was loving it! I window shopped in sephora and other unaffordable retail stores just for the craic. I then turned around for home as it was boiling! It's also interesting how each youth hostel becomes your 'home'. The first time I said it felt really weird, but it is true. I have no permanent home at the minute; exciting!
I found Mel in the hostel lounge waiting on a tuna salad. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was delicious. Craving western food again! The only problem with hostel food is it is quite expensive, especially compared to street food. We ate up and then went to grab some water. On the way there we stopped at a shop that was selling kittens and puppies. I will definitely be getting one when I get home! Cute! I then sat out in the sun which was amazing. The heat was unlike anything I have ever felt. Just the way I like it. I uploaded a few pictures to instagram, chatted with dad and chilled out.
Somehow it was then 5.30 and Mel and I desperately needed to book our train to guilin considering they book out weeks in advance! The hostel worker kindly offered to write down what we need in Chinese for us. On the way to the train office we grabbed some noodles for dinner to eat on the way. They were delicious! Egg, beansprouts, veg, noodles. And only 8 yuan which equates to about 80p. Not only is it cheap, however food like that fills you for ages. Yum! We reached the train office and handed the lady our card. We got two hard sleepers for Thursday the first of August for 340 yuan (34 quid). It is actually pretty decent considering the journey is 16 hours and you get a bed!
We stocked up on more water and then headed to the hostel again. We really needed to Get some sort of plan together for our next few days. Mel and I got googling some good activities and things to do. One of the things on the top of my list is I want to go to a sky bar. I want to be up so I can see the beautiful surrounding lights of shanghai. We found a trip advisor talking about a ladies night in the park hyyat on the 92nd floor. It also appears to be the third highest building in the world, so I really hope it works out! After trip planning I did some financial planning. I am usually very good with money but I can see how easy it is to just throw the cash around and not count it up, so I got budgeting! I have calculated that a good budget for me would ideally be 25 British pounds per day, with a monthly budgeted otal of 683. This is going to be very hard but I know in places like Thailand where I am on the beach all day, barely any money will be spent! This plan means I should reach American with the money I feel is sufficient for Australia! (if I go;) ) . After calculations and a day of searing heat I was feeling tired, bedtime!
