Deborahs journey
The last week i have spent in Wellington. On sat i went on a Lord of the Rings tour around the Wellington area. There were only three of us on the tour so was a nice small group. Started of on Mt Victoria where Hobbiton Woods was filmed. Went to the quarry where Helms Deep and Miras Tirith were filmed. Drove past the studios where areas where filmed and were all the props where made, Had lunch at Rivendell, went to Isengard and river of Anduin, Village of Bree and drove through the area where all the stars stayed during filming. including Peter Jacksons house, which isnt that impressive. We had cffee at the chocolate Fish cafe which is in this area and where the stars used to go and eat. We saw so many places that i had forgtten some of them when i got back. THe guide had lots of information of the film, the filming on the scenes and how all the scenes were put together with the use f computors, will definatly see the film differently from now on. There are also rumours that they will make the Hobbit as the only places to feature in this is Hbbitn and Rivendell and they are the only two places which have the names/signposts up all the places were returned to their natural state.
The rest of the week was spent visiting the museum. On tuesday it was Anzac day here and despite the rain 1000s of peple still turned of the dawn service, at the museum the NZ RAF swing band played at lunchtime so i saw that. I went to Wiltons Bush which is a rainforest just outside the main city centre. IT was amazing too think that you were still in the city but in the middle of a rainforest with huge trees and loads of birds around. I went for a walk along an area of coast aound a suburb of Wellington. It took me to Red rocks area where from MAy to Oct seals can be seen but i didnt see any when i was there, THe rocks are red due to iron oxide.
On Saturday evening it went to a Super 14 match at the West pac staduim. i watched Hurincanes v cheifs. Luckily the weather cleared up whilst the match was on, but the pich was still slippery and the wind made it impossible t kick the ball proberly. However the game was still god and a good win for the Hurricanes. THe crowd was a real mixture of families, couples, groups of girls and not the typical rugby crowd i was expecting.
