Deborahs journey
left queenstown at 8 and heading to Dunedin today. The bottom bus is much smaller then the normal kiwi exp bus and there were only 9 people on the bus. We stopped at Cromwell for breakfast but then drove continually to Dunedin. Dunedin is gaelic for Edinburgh and suburb and road names share names with areas of Edinburgh. THe main city is not like Edinburgh only some granite buildings reminded me of Edinburgh. When we arrrived there we went to baldwin st, which is the steepest street in the world. moira and i got dropped of in th city as she had family in Dunedin and are staying with them for a few days. THey came and picked us up and was really nice to be staying in a house for a change and had electric blankets on the bed as it was cold. Had a really nice home cooked meal for dinner.

23rd May
Today i went on a wildlife tour. I got picked up and we drive along the otago penisular to the Royal Albatross centre first. Here we were taken up to the hut/hide by a guide. from the window it was only possible to see one albatross chick sat there. We were actually very lucky that an adult royal albatross flew over as this time of year they stay out at sea for days rather than come back every day to feed the chicks. It was a huge bird and has a 3m wing span. From here we drove to a farm where we had t get out and walk down through the fields to a sandy beach. Right in front of us were loads of sealions. they took me by surprise as i wasnt expecting them to be sat right there. THere was lots of them and we were able to get quiet close to them. all along the beah there were sealions sleeping. there were also some in the rushes. At the end of the beach there is a small hide to watch the yellow eyed pengiuns come back to there nests after a day at sea. As it was 4-5pm now we were able to sit and watch the pengiun waddle up the beach to the cliff. There were lots of them coming back and as we crossed back along the beach were able to see some more closer up. From here we walked up along the fields again to the pther side of the penisular to a seal colony on some rocks. Again there were lots of seal making a lot of noise. From here we just headed back to the city and i got the bus to the house, where they had saved me some dinner!!!
