Deborahs journey
Arrived in Auckland on Friday to glorious sunshine, got picked up from the airport from my friend and he took me up Mt Eden which is an old volcanoe with 360 degree views over Auckland you could see for miles. Then went to have some beers at his house. On Saturday the sun was still shining so after a lie in walkeed down to Auckland harbour, around the viaduct harbour which has new bars, cafes and restuarants and a marina and carried along till i got to the main marina and the habour bridge. After walking back i cauight the ferry across the harbour to Devenport which is a 15minute ferry ride to the oldest 'village'/area of Auckland. Walked up Mt Victoria which is another old volcanoe with more views back across the harbour to Downtown Auckland and views across the hariaki gulf islands.
On Sunday the Dolphin and Whale watch boat tour that i was booked on was canelled due to the bad weather. The cyclone that has just his Queensland in Oz had come across. Instead went on the explorer bus and went to the underwater world of the antartic. With huge King Penguins wuith chicks playing in real snow and ice, You coouldnt get that close to them and had to view from a 'Snow Cat' ride. Also saw the sting rays being fed and some small sharks and eels. Next stop was the museum with a huge collection of Maori items. Next stop was the Victoria park market, where small shops selling souvenirs, clothes and odd bits are. After completing the bus tour bnack to hostel and talked to roommates.
Today i completed the bus tour with the places i didnt see yesturday in the rain, Went up to Mt Eden but the views werent as clear as Friday, driove past Eden Park the home of the All Blacks. the next stop was the sky tower, The biggest tower in the southern Hemisphere and seen here in the photo. U can go nearly all the way up and has more fantastic views of Auckland, but its a long way down. There was glass bottoms in some of the lifts and in areas of the viewing deck. After this the weather turned bad again so no more chance for sightseeing.
