HAPPY NEW YEAR
Spending New years eve in Sydney was one of the main reasons of coming to Australia. I went to Mrs Macquairies point which had views of the Opera house and Harbour bridge. The gates opened at 10am and i was queuing there from 9.20am. I eventually got through the gates where they were checking everyones bag for alcohol and glass and finally got to sit down on my area of grass at 11.30am!!! My friend joined the queue at 2pm and finally came to join me at 4pm!! The weather was nice until 3pm wheere it clouded over and the wind made it cold. Luckily there was no rain all night. At 1pm the canon at Fort Denison fired to start the countdown the midnight. At 9pm there were some family fireworks which lasted 10mins and were really good. None came from the brifhe but on barges at different point along the harbour. Then several boats were going up and down the harbour all lit up.
Then just before midnight the countdown started and 25000 people in our area all started counting down. It was the 75th anniversary of the harbour bridge opening so it was a big celebration with an emerald lighting up on the bridge. THe fireworks lasted 15mins and came from different areas along the harbours, from the tops of building behind me and from the harbour bridge. THe opera house was also lit up so the whole thing was awesome. I have taken some photos which i will put on here as soon as i can. THe 13 hour wait was definalty worth it and am so glad i have celebrated New YEar in Sydney and am also glad i was organised and booked my hostel bed back in March!! lots of people i met had no where to sleep last night!!
