I had four days in byron bay and thankfully was completley different to Surfers paradise. It is a small town with no high rise buildings a beautiful beach. it is an old hippy town full of cool shops and lots and lots of little massage centres and spas. It was definatley a place for me. After exploring Byron on my first day there and thinking i could spend a lot of money in the shops, on monday i walked up to Cape Bryon to the lighthouse and to Australias most easterly point. This walk went along the cliff and was obviously all up hill and the sun came out after a but so was a hot hard walk but the views all the time were awesome. THere are a few beaches in Byron and could view them all from here. At the top at the most easterly point i saw a turtles and arpund 20 dolphins. Then carried on around to the lighthouse which is still working to alert boats to Julien Rocks and the reef system just of the coast. The walk down was throught the forest. The next day i got up at 4.45am to get the hostel shuttle bus back up to the lighthouse to watch the sunrise. we were the first people to watch the sunrise in OZ. The weather was nice so the sunrise was awesome. Later that day i went and had a massage and a mini facial for my xmas present, i couldnt not have a massage in Byron!! Totally relaxed after that. ON wednesday i went snorkelling at Julien Rocks to see some sea turtles. The water was so clear that i could see the fish really clearly. The coral wasnt as pretty as the great barrier reef but the fish were impressive still. I saw three sea turtles (or the same one 3 times im not sure) but they were really cute. Really glad i did that trip.
The hostel i stayed at had access straight on to the beach and as we are in a different time zone it didnt get dark until later so could stay on the beach until 6pm!! Beautiful beaches here and good surf but my surf camp is yet to come!!
