Today I went trekking in the mountains surrounding Luang Prabang. I was the only person in the group but I had with me not only the tour guide but his three friends who was learning to speak English, before we left, I showed the students some photos of home and introduced some new words, they seemed to enjoy learning them and I they did enjoy it as well. Today I took an easy day and walked and then cycled my around this city. It is a beautiful city which is listed as world heritage by the UN. It has old French colonial and old style Laos building. There are numerous of bamboo bridges which is required to cross the smaller river of Nam Kam. Crossing the river would lead to a totally different suburban town where the people live much rougher and the road is not unpaved. I crossed the river only to go to a nice weav...

Today I joined the boat at Pak Beng and continued the journey to Luang Prabang. It continued to be a beautiful trip. It took 8 hours to get there. After arriving in Luang Prabang I checked into my hotel for 56,000 Kip ($7.00 Australian) and we to a local market for dinner. A meal cost me 10,000 Kip ($1.25 aust) and a large bottle of beer Laos at the same price.

Today I left Thailand and caught a river taxi across the river to Houei Xia in Lao. The immigration was the easiest I had to deal with as last night I paid at the hotel the visa fees, 1600 Baht and gave them my passport and completed the application form. They did all the paperwork. I did not have to go through immigration to leave the country and once I arrived in Laos as I was our part of a group I just waited for them to hand my passport out. We then went to ...
