We had a beautiful day today. We began by travelling through rolling Idaho farmland, really good looking farms with neatly tilled enormous fields. There is no obvious delineation to the fields, no fences or markers of any sort. they just stretch unbroken as far as the eye can see. There didn't seem to be any markers from one farm to the next, either, just another beautiful farmhouse, or probably called a ranch, so we assumed it was another farm.
Apparently this region was a barren, desert-like landscape until the federal government established irrigation schemes using reservoirs & the enormous watering machines I mentioned earlier. It certainly looks very fertile now & the watering machines were everywhere, but not in use at present.
Later the terrain became more mountainous & we arrived at West Yellowstone at lunchtime. This afternoon we went into the park & it really is quite astounding. We saw Deer, Elk, Bison, Bighorn sheep but missed bears on two occassions. We shall return to the park tomorrow, so more news then.
Mileage today 201. Total (this car) 1,946. Total 2,477.
