Flamingoes! Yes, we saw a group of them doing their slow walk on their long skinny legs, dipping their strange beaks into the water to filter out the tasty little morsels. We also saw many ducks, geese, wrens, and hawks. At one point there were five hawks making big circles and swooping down over the reeds at the waters edge. Pretty incredible to see them directly overhead, then making wide circles.

Just a little note after cooking a wonderful meal at our hostel in El Calafate, and enjoying the view of the expansive Lago Argentina (see blog photo) while drinking the only beer with any flavor in the country made right down the street that we have really enjoyed reading everyone's comments on the blogs and photos. Glaciers! Yesterday we took a minibus to Parque National Los Glaciers. The main attraction is the Perito Morino glacier which ruptures frequently with a noise like thunder and observable chunks falling to the water with a splash and crash. Perito Moreno is special because it is one of the few glaciers remaining in the world that is advancing and not retreating.
