Our Year of Adventure
We were heading back North to Melrose today and took the opportunity to go into the Metro Centre in Gateshead en-route. Maria obviously likes just being around shops but there was genuine need today because we still needed to buy a new camera bag. It was massive place and we even managed to get a bit lost in the car park even with a Sat Nav!! In the end we ditched the car within sight of the mall and walked the remaining half kilometre. After walking the length and breadth of the entire place and passing every single store, which Maria described to David as 'exercise', we found a new camera bag.
Back on the road, it wasn't long before we were on the Scottish-English border. Interestingly, when you head North you are greeted with a nice 'Welcome to Scotland' sign but there is no such reciprocation when heading South into England.
With David's mum and dad on holiday, we were fending for ourselves in the kitchen - it was easiest to get a takeaway from the 'Chippie'. David decided to surprise Maria with some traditional choices and came back with Fish Suppers, Deep Fried Pizza and a battered haggis. Maria was struggling to understand why everything has to be battered & deep fried in Scotland because the food actually tastes good without it. David wasn't helping explain though, just commenting 'it just tastes better' and 'we are brought up with it' between mouthfuls...
