Our Year of Adventure
It was our last day in Scotland on this trip, but unfortunately there weren't any great plans. Whilst it had been great not living out a backpack for the last 9 days, it was time to pack them again in preparation for our flight to Finland tomorrow.
It wasn't going to be as simple as just repacking what we arrived with though. We had left a reasonably large box of stuff at David's parent's house whilst we were away in Central and South America during the last nine months.
We also had a few Christmas gifts, that we had bought in Scotland, that we needed to take to Finland.
Yesterday we bought a couple of boxes to post some of the non essential stuff back to New Zealand (once we have somewhere to live and an address). The boxes seemed a good size, a little bigger than a shoe box, and they had a limit of 2kg in weight. Therein lay the problem, it was impossible to fill the box and keep it under 2kg. Our two Lonely Planet guides weighed 1.7kg alone and the box 300 grams, so that didn't work. In the end we managed to pack a couple of beer glasses, a tapestry, a small book and lots of plastic air bubbles.
The rest of our stuff managed to squeeze into our bags and stay within our weight limits... just. And it had taken pretty much the whole day so David decided to 'open the bar' early at 4pm. It's not fun packing, but some beer and wine helped us unwind.
After another delicious meal at home, David phoned his brother, Derek. It may seem unworthy of a mention in the blog, but they haven't been on the phone for years. Literally. There have been a few emails, but that's about it. It was good to catch up...
