We have been over the water today leaving HK island for Kowloon. Since today was the public holiday and forecast was hot, we thought a trip to the back of beyond was needed. 3 different metro lines later we got to a nunnery in the hills along with hoards of others. It was so full you shuffled everywhere.
There was a lovely display of large rocks on plinths, bonsai, a vegetarian cafe behind a waterfall but no nuns.
Then we shuffled back to the metro to get a train to a walking tour of the local markets. There was a bird market, a flower market, a goldfish market and a sex toy market. All very informative.
We tried to get to the sea front to watch the lights come on from a nice bar. Unfortunately they are busy digging up most of the sea front so we made do with a choc-ice on a flyover.
By this point we were exhausted having been on our feet for about 5 hours solid.
Dinner in a local cafe and then a drink watching the world go by. The main entertainment was the con artists dressed as monks (we think it's a con). They approach western men, bless them, slip a beaded bracelet on your hand while apparently shaking your hand then the haggling starts over how much of a donation you would like to give. Luckily we saw this happening and have avoided the overly friendly monks since.
