Adventures in Netherland
So since my last post I really haven't done much. So for all those who've been wondering why...well because nothing exciting has happened. Well, I take that back something sort of exciting did happen on Wednesday I just forgot about it till just now. I had a meeting at the Business building of the NHL, which is the one on the other side of town. Well I rode my bike over there and had my meeting and everything was good. I then got on my bike and started to head back. Well I got to the first roundabout and I tried to stop because I saw that a car was coming and as I'm trying to stop and hop off my bike slides out into the road and yeah I slid with it. On my side!! So the car slows WAY down and the driver just stares at me as he passes. I was SO embarrassed then to make it worse the couple that had been behind me stop to see if I was alright. I was okay...nothing was bruised except my PRIDE! Then when they were walking off the guy looked back at me and goes "It's okay, it's a little difficult to get the hang of riding a bike. Especially when your pant legs are so big!" So anyway, I totally blame it on the bike seat being so high!
I started getting sick around Thursday I think and now, Tuesday, I finally feel like my old self. I didn't HAVE to go anywhere Friday through Monday so that was nice. On Thursday I had Dutch Language & Culture. It was a really good class. I liked the instructor a lot. A lot better than my Intercultural Comm lady, who's class I have to go to today...blah! So on Saturday I went shopping cause I'm pretty much out of clothes and I didn't really want to do laundry. I decided that shopping would be a more fun way of getting some clean clothes..hah! I got some clothes so that I could dress like a dutch...lol. The most odd thing happened in one of the stores though. The sales assistant mistook me for british. I often times get mistook for a dutch but NEVER in my life has someone mistook me for being british! Then Saturday night I didn't feel like going out cause I was still very sick. Saturday and Sunday were the worst days. So instead of hitting up the town I sat in my room and listened to Bob Barry do play by play of my beloved SOONERS! I got so excited when I heard the Pride in the background playing my favorites like BOOMER SOONER! It sort of made me homesick though. :(
Yesterday I had quite the experience. I decided I needed to go to town for some stuff so I cleaned up and headed to the centre. Let me make that clear. I WALKED to town thanks to my bike incident from a few days before! So I got to the bridge and usually they put up the bridge to let big boats pass once every hour or something. But this day I guess it was stuck up or something because they had it blocked off and everything. I was thinking crap I am going to have to walk WAY around to get to town. So as I started walking I noticed that there was this basically piece of wood with a motor on it that was taking people back and forth across the river. I was a little weary about getting on but I figured it would be better than walking all the way around it. So I went and stood with the crowd and waited on it to get to our side. So it starts pulling up to the bank and the guide in the front starts yelling "whoa, whoa" to the guy in the back steering the motor but he doesn't hear him or something and he hits the bank so hard with only one corner of the boat/board and the stupid thing almost tips over and everyone on it yells. Then all of us who were waiting to get on just look at each other with eyes like a deer's eyes in a headlight. I'm sure we were all quite weary of getting on and that was def. not the comforting sight we were hoping for. So I was one of the first ones to get on. And people were bringing their bikes on this thing too. They just keep putting more and more people and bikes on this thing and I was thinking to myself that we were getting a little overloaded. So then the last lady gets on and WE almost tip over. Actually we almost tipped over about 10 times on our little trip cause we were so overloaded! I guess sometimes its better to just walk!
