On Monday I went to Notting Hill and walked around for a bit. It's my favorite area of London. Then I went to the British Library Galleries. They had so many amazing things on display. Handwritten Beatles lyrics, the original manuscripts of Alice in Wonderland and The Canterbury Tales, some original scores from Beethoven. This isn't near all they have but just a few of my favorite things. Added bonus: it was FREE! During the afternoon I hung around Trafalgar Square. It was a bit rainy but still, tons of good people watching. After I got tired of the rain I headed to Hyde Park to find my new hostel. I took a great nap when I got there. My roommates arrived a little after midnight with bounds of energy so needless to say, I didn't get any sleep that night. I got up the next morning and headed downstairs for the breakfast room. I walked into a room of great smells and even greater looking food when the lady comes over to ask my room number. When I gave it to her she proceeded to tell me that my breakfast was downstairs. I should have known it was too good to be true, I got toast and instant coffee with the rest of the backpackers. I had to check out at 10 am and they were going to charge me £3($6) to store my luggage. I said NO WAY! I couldn't get enough money to get to the airport until after 3 pm so I took my bags and went to Hyde Park. I scouted out a nice bench to begin the day but it got a bit boring after awhile so I started changing benches every hour. Cold and tired, I watched the minutes slowly pass by until 3:00 finally arrived.
At the airport I first headed for food then to check in. When I checked my backpack the guy sitting at the scanner asked me if I had my whole life in there. Yes, by the way, I do. And, it's heavy!
I arrived in Helsinki at 1:30 am, the last flight to arrive. Just minutes after the bus left for Kuopio. I had to wait until 6:30 for the next one. It was alright though, I hung around talking to a couple of Brits who had come for a music festival. After a 6 1/2 hour bus ride I was finally in Kuopio. Terhi and her younger brother came to pick me up at the station. Then we met up with a couple of her friends. We went to eat Chinese food and then went to their parents house to use the sauna. While we were waiting for it to warm up her dad brought us these bundles of birch that you are supposed to hit yourself with while in the sauna to get your blood flowing. In a weird sort of way, it felt kind of nice.
