Saturday 2nd July
We arrived in Danang station around 10ish after having our pizza for breakfast. Although a large city we werent stopping here and boarded our coach for the 45 minute drive to the small town of hoi an. This was a picturesque town on the river and it is renowned for its streets full of tailor shops. They were everyhwere and this contributed to our later problems.
We would be staying here two nights which was good as our hotel was really nice and had a rooftop pool. Our first since leaving Bangkok! We unpacked and then went for a group lunch at the cargo club on the river. The food was brilliant and we both had another pizza! The deserts were also amazing! After lunch we wandered to the river and bargained a 3 pound boat trip for four of us up the river for an hour. This was the perfect way to relax after lunch and we saw some flying fish and the local fishing village.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped at a bar for a cold beer and next door was a lady renting out mopeds. Tim managed to get one for 24 hours for around 3 pound and after carefully choosing a helmet we both got on for the 'short' trip back to the hotel. This was when we realised just how similar the streets and shops were! We ended up driving round the crowded roads for 45 minutes before we eventually stumbled across our hotel.
We spent sunset in the rooftop pool watching a storm in the distance before heading to the room to get ready for our evening meal. Tim headed out on his moped to get some water and obviously hadnt learnt his lesson from earlier as he didnt take a hotel card. He ended up getting lost and he started to worry as the petrol ran low, the sun started to dissapear and the storm closed in. Meanwhile, back at the hotel Dan had began to think Tim may have had an accident. Eventually Tim found another hotel and asked for directions to the hotel as he'd vaguely remembered the name and managed to find his way back with only a few minutes to spare before we headed to the gourmet garden for dinnner which was again a very nice meal.
After dinner, the majority of the group went shopping whilst the four lads and the tour guide headed to the before now bar. This was again very cheap as it was buy one get one free drinks and we ended up spending the whole night there gathered around the pool table. We left here around 12 and the streets were deserted and unsuprisingly we got lost yet again! Bearing in mind this was a small town of about 10,000 this was pretty bad on our behalfs. We did eventually get home.
Sunday 3rd July:
We got up for breakfast around 9ish and today we had a bike tour organised to a local beach. Whilst the most of the group went on bikes Tim came along on his moped. The tour was fun as we rode through tiny streets and along rice fields avoiding various cows that were in our way.
We got to the beach after about an hour of riding and it was soon obvious that it was the best beach we'd been to yet. It was very quiet and had white sand and blue water. We had some lunch at a beachside bar before riding back to town. Tim then went to drop his bike back and dan followed on a bike so he could give Tim a backy on the way back to the hotel. For once we actually found it first time!
Once back at the hotel, we discovered the hotel dressing gowns and wore them up to the rooftop pool for sunset again before heading out to the before now bar for dinner. After eating we headed down to the bar for a few drinks and games of pool before watching the mens wimbledon tennis final. We headed back to our hotel for the final set and discovered that Tim had left a bottle of water on his bed that had leaked resulting in him sleeping in the other boys room for the night.
