Dan and Lu's Travels
Themba and Dan dropped me off at the Greyhound station for the 9am bus which ended up being full so I had to wait for the 10am one. A very uneventful journey was followed by the biggest panic I've had on this whole 7 month trip. Went to the ATM in the Greyhound station, bearing in mind I'm now on my own, and there was no ATM card in my purse........ panicked and searched but it defintiely wasn't there. managed to get some moeny out on my credit card and got a taxi to the hotel where I was meeting Leah, she wasn't there yet so I called Dan to find out that he didn't have the card either - double panic!!!
So waited for Leah in the very, very stylish lobby area of our hotel and tried to figure out how I could possibly get money from an account without an ATM card.... Luckily Leah arrived an hour later and calmed me down and we went immediately to the sky terrace to have a cocktail and figure out that I could just transfer money into her account and she'd withdraw it for me. Thank god for Leah and the internet!!!!
We had got a few strange looks as she arrived up the illuminated escalator to the lobby of the hotel; I was at at one side and saw her as she saw me, we both dropped our bags and ran to meet in a hug in the middle of the reception area!!!
So, after sitting and marvelling at the amazing view from our sky terrace (which I think sounds much more fabulous than a balcony or roof garden) we planned what we'd do for the next few days and caught up on news over a cocktail.
Leah had brought me some much needed cool clothes, jewellery and heels (what are these things?!) from home so we got dressed up and went for something to eat near Times Square. We had booked a table at a The View, which is a revolving restaurant at the Marriot Marquis, having been told it was reasonably priced. It was really, but we still didn't want to pay $70 each before wine on our first night! So we ended up in a cool little place, slightly overdressed but this is New York - who cares!!!
We went to the Hudson bar (in our hotel) for a nightcap. This place is soooo cool!!! Very stylish and apprantly attracts lots of people who are not staying at the hotel too. Just trying to have a conversation was hard because we kept getting approached by blokes! It was like SatC.... very amusing, especially when one guy actually gave us both his business card......
