Hey all,
South Island was starting off slowly- much like Auckland and Mercury bay at the start of our Kiwi Experience- so we weren't worried but we were raring to go for another Rotorua moment to bring the new group together.
Our journey to Westport did involve a stop off at Lake Rotoiti which was stunning even though the sky was overcast. We had recently bought a rugby ball and so Josh, Shil and I passed the hour there chucking it about and trying (but failing ) to record some cool videos.
We were in Westport before not too long and the only highlight (which at the time seemed like nothing) was that Matt joined the bus, a great lad who we've now been travelling with for nearly 2 weeks (I'm writing this entry on August 1st) The three man wolfpack soon became one of four!
Basil's hostel (sadly not belonging to Fawlty) was well equipped with a huge kitchen and a sitting room complete with fireplace and tv. Watching a movie when i could do that back home in the UK was one of the last things I wanted to do right then but after a quick shop for food supplies we realised just how little there was to do in Westport... Anchorman for the enth time then!!! Although it was strange to be wasting our time in front of a tv, Anchorman has become like a soundtrack to our trip now, with quotes flying left right and centre ever since we watched it.
Stirfry and the realisation of another quiet night in dawned on us, but with beers in hand (we have an on tour rule that an alcoholic beverage of some sort must be consumed every day) we had a quite ridiculous but fun chat with Matt, Gav and the girls. Oh the crazy stuff we get up to!
To top it all off we watched Layer Cake which was a class film and then after debating opening a second crate or not for quite some time we hit the hay hoping/expecting that it would just be a matter of time before the bus kicked into party mode!
Next stop was Lake Mahinapua and the famous Poo pub for a night of "P" themed fancy dress: it promised to be epic!
Over and out
