So it's all kicked off then... I've finally packed my bags and shipped off to China. 11 hours on a plane seemed to fly by in comparison to the lunchtime conversation of my neighbours at a rubbish restaurant in terminal 5. A father and son pair of yanks talked at length about the merits of pomegranate iced tea before discussing the equally intriguing issue of the value of juices (in general) being served cold.
So 11 hours flew by helped by Invictus and an all too guessable incident involving my neighbour's coat and my salad dressing which refused to leave the sachet!
I got to Shanghai about 14 hours ago and was ripped off by a "helpful" lady offering me a taxi which took me to my hostel. I went on from there to the expo with a friend of a friend and had a brilliant day checking out many of the pavillions. I didn't really know what to expect from the expo but it was great. Admittedly, certain countries went more for the "it's the taking part that counts" line of attack but ollie and I quite liked Moldova who came in the shape of a pretty blonde. One of the coolest by far was one of the last we visited (I really can't remember the rest!)- Sweden: who took the chance to remind us once again that they might have had something to do with ikea and that they invented skype, the zipper, Pippi Longstocking, and the sports bra. Its main attraction was set out in explaining the measures Stockolm and other major Scandinavian cities have adapted to try and recycle energy. Iceland had a brilliant 360 degrees video showing its stunning scenery and the Czech Republic, showing off what it referred to as Czechnology! At the czech pavillion I was picked out as the 10,000th visitor of the day to have a cologne made personally for me. I was hooked up wearing a sensor on my head to an iPad and informed that it would take readings to create a personalized scent bases on my feelings. After a few minutes it came back with geranium, jasmine and vetiver to be mixed together. What a pouf! At least i got a freebie out of it, although I resent feeling like a girl!
Tomorrow's Plans are to go back to the expo and to try and see the major ones we've missed so far: China, Uk, Russia- ones we avoided today because of the massive queues: wish me luck!
