Hey team,
I'm writing this from Kaikoura, a Coastal township which is an overnight stop before we get the ferry and rediscover the North Island tomorrow in Windy Welly. After the buzz of Queenstown it was always going to be hard to match the same levels of craziness anywhere after but Kaikoura is empty and after getting here at 11 we have spent all our time snoozing and browsing in the local stores. If the weather was good we would've been able to go crayfish fishing, a budget option I had chosen over the more attractive but super expensive whale watching & swimming with dolphins or seals! But our luck has finally run out- the bad weather we've been expecting over here has hit today so the fishing trip was cancelled. Add to that the fact that you can walk end to end of the township in 10 minutes we have jack all to do!
Last night in Christchurch provided an epic atmosphere for the match as the All Blacks thrashed the Wallabies and we were in the Holy Grail bar to witness it. The bar used to be a cinema and was complete with staggered, terrace-style seating. After an initial disappointment with the bar seeming a little empty, by kick off it was packed to the rafters and when the All Blacks turned on the style the atmosphere was awesome. Partying in Queenstown had finally taken its toll (apparently on most of Christchurch too) as the bar emptied and we followed suit once the match was over.
We're currently looking for a solution to make Kaikoura a bit more lively... I'll let you know how we do
Over and out
