I'll be backtracking with news from the rest of Shanghai and the first day or so in NZ later...
But for now I'm in Rotorua, after my second day on the Kiwi Bus. Tonight promises Maori dinner and of course a traditional Haka and then le4ss traditional drinking at the hostel bar (a must, we've been told since we are lodging in a notorious gang area where our bus driver was attacked at just 7 years old!). Tomorrow's bus takes us to the Waitomo Caves where we (Shil, Josh & I) are gonna go black water rafting.
Yesterday, my first full day in NZ after a comedy of errors in getting to Auckland, we got on the bus far too early, leaving us in a near-drunken giddiness. We stopped off at a few places on our way to Whitianga, checking out Mt. Eden and then the Caromandel Cove which gave us some stunning shots. Mostly it was just great to catch up with Shil & Josh after their three months or so on the road. Whitianga was a pretty quiet town but everybody turned up at the local sports bar to watch the All Blacks demolish the Boks. I'm already eating my words after saying before kick off that Wales and Ireland with their second string sides has just made the Kiwis look far better than they were. With Nonu & Smith back in the centre it looks like the Tri-Nations could be theirs. Far too early to write off the other teams though. It does make me massively excited at the prospect of next Saturday's match in Wellington (we've picked up 4 tickets!) , where we'll catch up with Katz for his last night in the NZ! It will be awesome.
Sweet as. Hang ten all.
