We drove from Spearfish, South Dakota (near Mt Rushmore) towards Yellowstone. We were again struck by the changing landscapes as we drove through the country. This time we were heading back West and drove through some rolling farmland, snowy mountains and some bizarre moon-like hills. We drove through the Big Horn National Forest and were amazed at the amount of snow around. The mountains we covered and there were some very pretty scenes with pine trees iced with snow. We then pulled over and walked to a snow drift that was about 3 metres high. After a very interesting, but long drive we arrived at the East Entrance to Yellowstone NP. We were once again confronted by some spectacular scenes, one of our favourite was Sylvan Lake which was frozen over - something completely alien to us.
We quickly stopped at one of the General Stores and headed to our campsite to set up. The campground was very nice with a large open meadow next to it and some very cute ground squirrels running all over the place.
