We had a late start this morning after enjoying a sleep in - so late that we missed the complimentary breakfast at the hotel. We headed down the street and found some delicious breakfast and spent some time looking at the shops. We then drove out to Johnston Canyon, but not before coming across two elk and a deer on the edge of town. On the way we drove up Norquay Mountain, which is a skiing area during winter. It was a nice drive up and we came across quite a few mountain goats (or mountain bighorn sheep - we're not sure which).
At Johnston Canyon, we hiked out through the canyon to see some waterfalls. This is a very popular walk and perfect weather meant that there were a lot of people on the lower part of the trail. It was a lovely walk and we definitely can se why it is so popular. There were some great views of the canyon and off course the two sets of falls. There was a cafe/restaurant so we grabbed some late lunch after we finished our walk and nearly shared it with two chipmunks that were skittering around outside.
We drove back to the hotel and had a quiet late afternoon in our hotel room and then headed down the street for some tea.
We have had a lovely time in Banff, with lovely walks, amazing views and some great shops. Tomorrow we head to the equally beautiful Lake Louise.
