Today we drove from Banff the short distance to Lake Louise. Damien was not feeling well so we were not planning a long day of driving and wanted to spend a bit of time in this very pretty part of Canada. We got there to find the lake frozen and the surrounding mountains covered in a thick layer of snow. We found out that this is unusual for this time of year, so it was very special to see the lake looking like this.
The weather was cool, but the sun was out so it was a really pleasant day. We planned to take a long-ish walk past the lake and towards some nearby glaciers, but about 3km into it we found that the path was under much too much snow for us to go any further. So we headed back to the very pretty Chateau Lake Louise to have some lunch. We were even serenaded by a harp player in the foyer. We wondered through some of the shops on the ground floor of the hotel, before we eventually headed back to the car. But instead of heading out onto the road in the direction of Vancouver, Damien headed to the hotel parking lot. He had surprised me with a night at this amazing hotel!!
We had a very pretty room with an amazing view of the lake. From our room we watched as the sun started to melt the ice, and then watched the clouds come over the lake.
With Damien not feeling well instead of going out for tea we ordered room service, a first for both of us. It was very good food and it was lovely to eat with such a backdrop. We had an early night ahead of the drive to Vancouver tomorrow.
