Just a quick update from China,
We took and overnight train to Guilin then a short bus ride and arrived in Yangshuo. The train was a good laugh and more comfortable than we expected although head room was lacking a bit!
Yangshuo has stunningly beautiful scenery, with limestone karsts as far as the eye can see. We explored the town which has a strange mix of chinese and western culture, making it a big tourist trap. The heart of the town is West Street and it is lined with bars, hotels and market stalls offering anything and everything. We walked up Xilang Hill and Green Lotus Peak for a bird's eye view of the town and surrounding area.
On recommendation we headed to a nearby town called Xingping, the stretch of the Li river between it and Langdi is renowned as one of the most scenic areas of the region. We were going to cycle along the river path but it was blocked by roadworks so instead we took a bamboo boat ride, which we were dubious of but we were so glad we did. the views of the landscape from the river were breath taking. Catching buses between towns is a great way to see the rural countryside.
