Returned to the Hong Kong Asia Fair again today to check out a couple of products which were of interest to Jase, and to our surprise found a couple of sections we had not seen. So we spent until midday there and then brought the brochures back to the hotel before catching the MTR to Mong Kok which is just north of Kowloon. The MTR is a very quick and easy way to get around - our ticket cost AU$1.70 and the trains run every few minutes. Mong Kok is a big shopping area very popular with the locals on weekends and there were thousands of people searching out bargains everywhere! We browsed the electronic stores fighting our way through the shoppers who were sometimes four and five deep at the mobile phone counters - if I had a dollar for every Iphone sold here I would be on the BRW Rich List in no time!!!
After an hour or two we caught the train back to Tsim Sha Tsui and browsed among the way more up-market shops that line Canton Road. We found a food hall and had sushi at a little place with the conveyor taking the sushi around in front of your seat! I'd never done that before and was delighted with the fantastic variety of choices. Yummy!
Managed to get a present each for Mumsie and Katie, but we still had about three hours before the laser light show over the Harbour that we both wanted to see, so we wandered along the promenade to the Intercontinental Hotel and sat in the huge lounge overlooking Hong Kong Harbour and had a beer or two! The view as the sun went down (which it does very early here, around 6pm) and then all the lights on the buildings coming on was absolutely sensational and we just sat there and took it all in.
There was a big crowd along the promenade waiting for the lights, but we found an excellent spot right on the rail and watched the impressive show along with dozens of pleasure craft and tour boats zipping along the water.
Caught the train back to Wan Chai, booked our airport shuttle for tomorrow and skyped home before repacking the ugly mess of dirty clothes and stuff which was my case!!!! That was a bit of a task but I finally got it all in some order, hopefully leaving enough room for a heap of Jase's brochures!!!
Finally hit the sack about 11pm, done with our last day of exploring here in Hong Kong! It has been a great experience - a very interesting and charismatic place!
