So another great day. Arrived at the beautiful Port Macquarie Sundowner Tourist Park, for a month of holiday fun, as we often have done over the last ten years, however after setting up this time we had the chance to talk to a lovely guy who is staying across from us for a couple of nights, who had the funniest story to tell. He is the primary carer for his ageing father who is 91,and after losing his mum, decided than rather put him in a home they would buy a caravan and travel. They bought a 27 year old reconditioned Viscount and a commodore of the same age and soon realised that this was an issue as they snapped a wheel on the van, some where near Rockhampton, and had no phone reception to call for help, so when a kind man stopped and offered to drive on to where there was reception, and send help for them they were thrilled. However this guy didn't take any of their details, name, number, type of car , van etc. eventually RACQ arrived and towed them to the repair shop where they had to wait 6 weeks for the parts to arrive, as the van was so old they didn't make the parts anymore, they finally got back on the road and were travelling home from Gunnedah when the car broke down. Once again they were stranded for days until parts arrived but eventually ended up buying another car from the repairer. A car if the same age with exactly the same mechanical problems that could possibly break down again. They still plan on travelling until dad passes, so we suggested continuing like the griswalds, from the movie 'Vacation' for those that remember, with him on the roof of the van if God forbid anything happened. He had us in stitches. What a character. This is exactly the type of people I'm sure we will meet on our travels. Adding value to our experience, keep you posted.
