From Byron Bay to Surfers Paradise.....
After having such an amazing time in Byron Bay, we were pretty gutted to be moving on, but as the heavens opened and the rain began to pour (when it rains here - it bloody rains) we decided this was a sign for us to move on up the East Coast and on to to Surfers Paradise. Our journey on the way to Surfers Paradise consisted of us watching the rain pelt it down! and our arrival we well and truly got drenched. However this did not stop us, and me and Sophie showed the ozzies that a bit of rain wouldnt put us off and danced around in like loonies in our bikinis.
Our first day at Surfers Paradise wasnt particularly great due to the weather being a bit miserable but we got to sightsee the city and take it all in.. the place was a rather strange set up as its a very built up city with a gorgeous beach and some crazy crazy waves!! In one direction you are looking at a beautiful beach and sea, then behing you are surrounded by skyscrapers. I quite liked this!! Our second day at Surfers was much better as the rain disappeared and out came the sunshine... a very scorching day and a great way to see Surfers Paradise probably. It seemed much more like paradise than a flooded city!
By the far i would say the beach is the best we have visited so far, very clean and extremely long full of young people. Its great to watch the ozzy locals surfing the waves ...if they can make it. All day the red flag was up because the waves are unbelievably high! At many times people were called out or rescued.. Great to watch for some drama! and to watch the life guards go striding into the sea! (very much like baywatch)
On our second night at our hostel we went out on the 'Backpackers Big Night out' which was so much fun.. All the hostels around Surfers were invited and picked up by the bus. Cowboy hats and glowsticks were given, free entry to three clubs and drinks for 30 dollars! This was such a good laugh, however i think me and Sophie may of scared some people off due to our crazy breakdancing and moves!
Even though Surfers was only a short stay, it was a good trip and worthwhile going to see. Personally i want to stay a lot longer as i loved the beach and the atmosphere! Our hostel was particularly average, with baby cots as beds and a few cockroaches knocking about. It did the job for a couple of nights. However we did see a huntsman spider which did infact go missing in the hostel... i hope i dont come across this on my travels!!
