From Surfers Paradise to Brisbane...
After having a quick few days in Surfers Paradise we were already on the way to our next destination (time is going so quick now) and we arrived in the modern city of Brisbane. Quite simular to Sydney, but there is much more modern architecture! Great for photographs. The hostel we stayed at was pretty cool called The Bunk, definately recommend to other people travelling to Brisbane due to the attached nightclub and closeness to the centre. Also the cool little touches of having your own light, plug and shelf next to every bed in the doom! (you get excited about things like this when you are a backpacker!)
On our first day at Brisbane, we walked round the central river and through the national park. This was really gorgeous and the views were fantastic! Our aim for the day was to find the lagoon which was the other side of the river - a bit of trek, but a well worth adventure to get there. Saw many fab sights, and the lagoon itself was gorgeous! Really surreal - a manmade beach and pools in the middle of the city, surrounded by skyscrapers and beautiful scenery. Such a great place to chill out in the shade or the sun. And finally we saw some sunshine!! after many days of rain and overcast skies.
The sun certainly makes things look much nicer than when its absolutly chucking it down. We even took a dip in the lagoon...... this was nice! On the way back from the Lagoon we took a different route to see more of the City, they have such a cool street of shops - i wish i had money to blow! and nice restaurants and bars. And we passed a pretty smart university which would be cool to study at, and go to the lagoon on a lunch or after lectures! (ha dont worry im not going to flee over to australia!)
On the evening we met up with some guys from Norway we had already met in Byron, so spent the evening drinking goon, playing pool and dancing in our club. This was a good laugh, especially with their being less than 10 of us on the dancefloor. Watch this space! The day after me and Sophie went to the Koala Sanctuary just on the outskirts of Brisbane. We had such a fab day and have both fallen in love with Koalas! There was millions of them sleeping in the trees and just looking gorgeous. (as you can probably tell by the thousands of photographs we both took!) We also walked through a park of Kangaroo's which were very friendly and would come right up to you.
Some of them were just as tall as us which was quite frightening! ha - one punch and i would of been flat out!
The best part of the day was getting to hold a koala - they are such friendly, cuddly animals! I was so tempted to just pinch mine........
Other than seeing really cute animals, we did see some not so gorgeous looking animals - snakes, spiders, dingo's, ...etc. Most of which just sat there and looked ugly! So we avoided these! Brisbane was quite a short stay for me and Sophie, but we had a really good time and would recommend travellers to visit the city just to see the Lagoon, and go hold some Koalas!!
A very cool, modern city aimed at young students...
