Whitsundays...
After having 3 maniac days on Fraiser Islands trying to survive without a wash, little food and surrounded by Dingos, we were all pretty much looking forward to a chilled out trip sailing around the Whitsunday Islands. Airlie Beach is the town we begun in before setting sail and we were very impressed by it! Simular to Byron bay, full of cool local bars, 'Beeches' being the prime spot, and a gorgeous lagoon to chill out around with beautiful scenery (harbour and greenery) to observe. People watching was great too! If only we could of stayed longer! Our hostel was pretty decent too which we were staying in at Koala's, not the best but the style of it was cool. Little cabins around the outside of a pool.. If only the rooms were a bit cleaner!
We all arrived at the port the following morning ready to be split into two groups to sail around with. We got the larrie bunch! ha. Infact they were such a good laugh and made our trip an experience. The majority of our group was made up of broomy lads who were always up for a laugh mainly involving booze! As soon as we boarded the boat the tunes were blasted on and the goon was cracked open. Dead chilled out cruising along the sea, except the weather was abit of a downer on the first day. After many glasses of wine everybody begun to mix and the journey began. Everybody turned up to the island we were staying on pretty tiddled up, and we proposed that there was dress code for the first night - stinger suits with womens underwear on the outside for the men, and mens underwear on the outside for the women! This was such a giggle apart from we were missing the flippers!! And the men stained our bikinis due to getting too carried away with their dance moves. Believe it or not we did not suggest the underwear layer, they did!
We played many drinking games this night, everybody split into two teams and most of the games involved downing your drink, putting it on your head and it was the first side of the table to finish. We lost twice! Then drinks began to get launch over one another (this is the way the broomies do it!), and everybody began to show off their dance moves on the poles and tables. Very good laugh! The night ended up with the girls managing to take their drink well and being half sorber, whilst the lads were absolutly b*****ed going on a 'snake mangina hunt!'. Do not ask! (sorry for those photographs!) They disgusted me! ha.
The second day was just as fun, and the sunshine was out!! We sailed around the whitsunday islands, visiting whithaven beach where we explored for a while then walked up to the lookout across the islands. This was absolutly amazing, looked like paradise! (these photographs are among the horrific ones!) Then on the afternoon we did the exciting stuff and went snorkling along the Great Barrier Reef. This was a lot of fun especially as i have never snorkled before. Took a while getting the hang of the whole breathing through your mouth not your nose, but i got there in the end. Saw the most gorgeous corial, and lots of small nemo fishes! (Sophie took an underwater camera of us snorkling - which is good)
After a couple of hours of snorkling we sailed around the islands soaking up the rays on the deck, and then out came the goon again. Hits 12 noon and the goon is out! (And we thought this trip was going to relaxing!) Its exhausting me writing about it. Another dress code was invented for the second night - toga theme which involved us using our white bed sheets as dresses, and cutting up the pillowcases. Touch wood we havent been charged yet! This night was associated around alcohol again, dancing like loonies and the lads attempting to pole dance. Oh dear!
Also playing slaps (drinking game) all night which was a good laugh. A very loud, raring game! Me and Sophie also got seriously fooled by the brummy lads. They tricked us by telling us about this really cool drinking game called boats which basically involves a tray of water, little bits of paper and straws. Its the first one to get to the other side. Well me and Sophie thought this was excellent drinking game and neither of us wanted to lose - determined to beat each other. One of the broomy guys (cheeky b*****!!!) hand his hands above the water to set us off on the count of three, everyone was positioned around us filming and taking pictures whilst me and broad were trying to come up with the best technique of how to get across to the other side of the tray the quickest - either blow through the straw or suck. Can you guess what happened next??? ... 1 2 3 the water went entirely over us as he had slammed his hands down so hard in the middle of the tray. EMBARRASING?... no!!! haha was funny though. We were drenched. Another eventful evening! The night ended up with everybody jumping in the resorts swimming pool and piggy back wrestling fights taking place! Probably not the greatest of ideas after lots of boozy boozy.
The third day was another eventful one, the sun was blazing, the tunes were playing and we all laid back taking in the views whilst the boat bobbed along the oceon! We sailed around other islands, and snorkled a different area of the reef where we saw again lots of lovely fish but not quite as nice coral. Personally i thought the first day was slightly better as there was alot more jelly fish around on the third! (you do not want to be in contact with these huge mamas!!)
It was an experience returning to the port on our third day i tell you that, as the waves were huge and chuffin viscous - they were crashing against the boat and coming over the sides and everybody was flying left, right and centre. Great fun! but me being a nerd i was quite nervous! And i was pretty gutted as i spilt my beer many of times!!
Overall Whitsundays was an absolute experience and such a good laugh! I would recommend everybody travelling up the East Coast to take part - it is a must do. For definate! It is one of the best things i have done! and i have made many friends who we are carrying on travelling up the East Coast with...
