From Sydney to Byron Bay.......
Well after leaving the crazy city of Sydney, we were looking forward to chilling out and not having to dodge prostitutes and the crazy city drivers! Byron Bay we all instantly fell in love with, due to it being such a typical, quaint ozzy town. All the locals very chilled out, and full of many people just like ourselves travelling down and up the East Coast. We met many great people in Byron who we will definately be keeping in touch with, and meeting again up the East Coast.
The hostel which we stayed in to begin with was pretty good! The rooms were fairly good (20 bed dorm) and the bathrooms were average! Baby wipes certainly came in useful several times again here. ha! The hostel was pretty cool as you could drink your own alcohol as alot of hostel dont allow this - this resulted in us buying lots of goon and getting drunk with other backpackers in our hostel. All the staff were really cool here and were a good laugh to be around!
On our first night we introduced to the ozzy nightlife, which in Byron Bay as many people will know if they have travelled there before will end up in the mighty...... Cheeky Monkeys! The cheesest bar going, but a must-go-to, or your missing out! Its a pretty small bar crammed with ozzy locals and other backpackers all dancing on the tables as there is no where else to dance. Funny after several glasses of gooon! We couldnt get Ben and Curt out of this place, - this could be due to the wet tshirt competitions and the stunning australian birds! ha. This ended up to be place to go to whilst we stayed in Byron Bay, and we had some amazing nights il never forget.
For a change one night however, we went to a bar on the beach which had to of been the best night so far! Dead cool as it was situated bang on the beach, and it was an open bar with pretty cheap drinks. We went when a local band was playing called Dirty Laundrey- they were a really cool crazy band (we even bought the album!) and me and Soph raved all night to them! It was such a laugh! Would definately recommend this bar to anyone visiting Byron if they like a chilled but fun night out.... Such a crazy night!
Other than partying on the evening, we did spend a couple of nights just chilling out on the beach with again a couple of glasses of goon and listening to some old school tunes! Had some funny times moon baving, playing the 'ha' game and generally messing about. We met up with the two leeds girls we met in Sydney again who were such a laugh - had us all in stiches with there 'tuna river' song - had to be there!
Not only did we stay at the Main Backpackers Hostels in Byron Bay we had to move to another hostel called Aquarius - this was such a good move!! It has to be the best hostel we have stayed at so far. More like a hotel than a hostel. The $5 meals were awesome - we couldnt get enough of them, the staff and entertainment was good (got free tshirts and hats!) and the drinks were pretty cheap - $10 jugs of snakebite and sangria.. This certainly did go down well. The only let down was that you couldnt drink your own alcohol on an evening, but we still managed to sneak some wine and beers in the rooms.
Other than drinking and partying our socks off, throughout the daytime in Byron we just chilled out and slept our hangovers off - eek. However one of the days me and Sophie did a day trip to Nimbin - a hippy town. This was such a good trip! I would recommend Jims Tours to anyone visiting Nimbin, as Chris recommeded this and it was so good. The trip took you to local town which you got to have a look around, and visit the crazy, hippy museum which i took a lot of pictures of (these are on facebook!) Most of the museum was all associated around drugs. As everyone in Nimbin smokes weed and does many more bizzare drugs. It was quite amusing to see people sat on Benches talking to them selves - and women that looked like scary witches selling cookies and cake. This was such a wierd experience!! Everyone seemed to be off their rockers here, the atmosphere was crazy - hippy little shops and crazy hippy dressed people high on something! I cannot explain what Nimbin was like, but its an experience i will definately not forget.
After we visited Nimbin the tour took us to a mans local house (more like a shed in a forest!) this was funny. On the way to the house the bus driver had music set for going up and down the mountains. He was such a crazy man! (a little bit firghtening at times!) When we arrived at the little hut a man came from out of the bushes in nothing but y fronts! He looked like bloody tarzan! Him and the guy taking us on the tour swam around the lake and in dingies ( you could join them if you wanted to)This was also very surreal but entertaining. Both of the guys were nutcases! Whilst backpackers were jumping in the lake, we were given locally grown melon and nuts to munch on...
We were also taken on a tour around his own grown forest which consisted of his own art work. Very bizaare artwork - rubbish thrown together to make different features. To be honest it was quite good as it was unusual.. Very up mine and Sophies street! However some of his work was very disturbing which i shall show you in my pictures. We also were taken to the top of a enourmous rainforest which we looked down on - this was breathtaking. An amazing moment. My legs did feel rather wobbly!
I would recommend Jims Tours to everyone - pay the extra bit of money!!
I have blabbed on for ages now so i will bring the blog to an end. Byron Bay is the best place we have visited so far this could be due to crazy, cool people we met and the place being so cool itself. A must see destination!! Im going to miss Cheekys....
