Today is the start of the Normanton Annual show and rodeo. This is a 3 day event that stops the shire. It starts on the Thursday afternoon with the themed parade through the main street.
This year the theme was superheros. For such a small population they were great. The kids in the parade were so happy with their costumes they were worn repeatedly during the following days.
The rodeo went from 6 o'clock each day to the early hours of the following morning. Great entertainment with a fantastic facility. I watched as an 11 year old girl took out a $1500 prize over adults for the barrel racing. There were 50 competitors. Just amazing to watch.
The entry fee was only $5.00 a day per adult and $2.00 a day for children for such a well co-ordinated event.
After the parade Pat and I went to the Central Hotel for tea, Wonderful Barramundi so Pat told me. I had the best chicken snitzel yet.
On Sunday we went out on the Gulflander to Critters Camp. Such a unique train made especially memorable by the driver Ken and guard Mark - the comentary made the trip
On Monday Pat and I went for a drive out to the Leichhardt river on the way to Bourketown. 150 km each way, mostly well formed dirt road. The falls were not running as we are in drought here but it was still a beautiful section of river.
Pat left for camp on Tuesday and won't be back until Sunday night unless he is called to town for a meeting. I will have to laze around the pool or read a book while he is away or maybe do both at the same time.
