Peniche is a chill little beach town. First thing we did when we got there was take a nice dip in the ocean (first time for me on the trip up to that point). After a night on the overnight train with out a shower, the cold ocean water felt amazing! There were only 3 little bars/restaraunts that overlooked the water that we would hang out for coffee, lunch, a beer in the evening, whatever. There was 1 little shopping center with 1 market and 2 nice restaurants and a couple little shops. Our first night there we tried one of the nice restaurants. Before you can even take a look at the menu, they bring out trays of appetizers and once you try it, you pay for it. The first one had tuna, mussels and octopus: all three were delicious! Who would´ve thought I would´ve gone back for 2nds for the octopus?! In the spirit of trying new things, I also tried to surf while in Peniche!! Traci was the patient one who went out with me. Unfortunately, the only board we had was about 6 inches taller than me and was pretty difficult to get up on. Irregardless, I still stood up a couple times!! Considering we only had 30 minutes in the water before we had to rush out to pack, the lesson was a quick one and there was no time for me to stop and get scared. I walked out of the water with a welt on one knee, a bruise on the other, and a cut on my shin that was dripping blood... I looked pretty bad ass walking out of the water without a wet suite or anything! It was awesome!
