Good 'ol Nando from Asterisks hostel. I can't even speak of Rome without mentioning the hostel we stayed at and the guy who owned it. First thing when Priscilla, Kevin, and I arrive in Rome, we walk into our hostel and are taken to our room, which doesn't have a light, just a blacklight! After a decent meal, we head back to catch some sleep because Traci would be there the following morning. While we're sitting in our blacklight room (cause we thought it would just turn off on it's own), Kevin convinced Priscilla that the owner's name was Nando. He was a little high strung and really like to talk to everyone, but nice enough... and his name was definitely NOT Nando. But, we called him that a couple times through out our stay and he never got it.
The next day, Traci arrived and we went to check out the Forum, the Palatine, and the Colosseum. While in the Colosseum, it started to rain on us, so we headed back to hang out with Nando. After a couple bottles of wine, we went to have our 5 course meal... Italian style! It was so good, but maybe a little too much food, so we actually only made it through 4 courses. Don't worry though, the one we skipped over was the salad! Some how I even mananged to have some grappa after my desert! Delicious!
Our final day in Rome, we headed to the Vatican. After a drawn out trip to the posteitaliano, I was going to meet up with everyone at the Vatican. Unfortunately, when I arrived, they were closed :( I did manage to make it on a bus tour and was able to see where the remains of Pompey's theatre complex. Later it was a temporary assembly for the senate and where Julius Caesar was stabbed to death. Considering I loved the HBO series Rome, I was pretty pumped to stumble across these ruins! That night, we stayed in the hostel, had some great cheese and wine, and watched MTV with some people at the hostel. It was great time!
