BLOG Have you ever been skydiving without a parachute? Me neither. That has nothing to do with Venice but I was curious.
Camping can be a tough gig right? Insects biting you, food out of tins, cold nights, poo in a hole and cold showers. Well camping in Venice was a little different. Private cabins with an ensuite, resort style pool, spa's, gym, bar, pub, beach soccer/volleyball court, restaurant and supermarket. Sound nice? Well it was ok I guess. JOKING it was amazing, as good as a threesome with Rihanna and Shakira, only better. Plenty of hours were spent playing soccer against various opponents before cooling off in the pool. For the record Team Course-White-RandomGerman comfortably beat Team Korea and Team Course-White got their arses handed to them by Team Italia but to their credit they came good to take advantage of "next goal wins". A 2 and 0 record was a bit flattering but at the end of the day if god gives you lemons, make lemonade (even if the opposition made lemonade first).
The Alba Do'ro Camping Village Venice was really great, and provided us with some aweesome memories. Every night there is a different party in the bar or pool. Our first night was toga night and let me tell you right now, Coursey and Whitey CAN toga. Toga's and us were a match made in heaven, much like fish and water. Needless to say the toga party was a massive hit and we met some really nice people (if you haven't noticed, "people" and "girls" are interchangeable in this blog.) I will give a shout out to Emma, Jade and Ainsley as they deserved it. I cannot stress enough how good toga parties are, and untill you have experienced one you haven't lived.
The second night was live music night and there were a great band playing rock covers. Under the bridge, mr brightside and livin on a prayer all had the crowd going bonkers and the lead singer and guitarist ended up playing on the roof! I didn't quite last the distance as me walking Emma and Jade back to their cabin turned out to be an hour and a half of talking s***. Interesting topics included intimancy with uncle Ken and dry spells of sexual frustration. Definitely a fun time though. I'm sure matt had just as much as fun drinking beers with some random blokes at the bar.
The third night was a foam party by the pool, but unfortunately our attendance was non-existant. This was due to several factors including exaustion, no vodka left in our room and Oscar our pet parakeet had the flu.
The supermarket at the campsite was really handy and €9 (A$12) for a bottle of vodka was not a bad price especially when compared to €25 for a rub n tug.
The city of Venice was quite different to any other cities we have been to. Obviously it was our first city in Italy but having a whole city built on water was a change. All the water, whether it was canals or ocean, really enhances the beauty of Venezia. All the Italian sterotypes made an appearance with gelato stalls, pizzerias and gondolas all in abundance. Believe it or not one of the most fun parts of Venice is getting lost (and not in the eyes of a beautiful Italian girl). Only about a third of the streets in Venice have street names, and there is no logical pattern to the streets. This makes navigation harder than trying to run through a brick wall. We actually resorted to using the compass on young Mathieu's iPhone.
The only forms of transport in Venice are by the canal. Even deliveries all have to be made by canal.
Well today Rome awaits us after a bus trip that lasts the best part of 10 hours.
