Praha, Prag, Prague. Whatever you call this wonderful city it cannot be denied that it's beauty is unparalleled. Prague brought with it a lot of new aspects; new currency, new country, new people, new food. For this reason we were in the dark over what the experience would be like.
However things seemed to be heading in the right direction when we checked into our hotel. For the last 3 weeks we have been staying in hostels and 2 star hotels. But in Prague we managed to snag a 4 star hotel for the same price. Our room was big enough to fit all of tiger woods' mistress' which is always a good indicator of size. Buffet breakfast was also a welcome inclusion to the team (stale bread got dropped for discplinary reasons) and a TV got named at centre half forward. This room felt a bit out of our league, but we both felt like we earned it after all our tinea infested showers! The TV was much appreciated seeing as the European Athletics Championship was taking place. If you need me to translate that for you it means hours upon hours of smoking hot girls wearing not much.
One of the great things about Prague was that it brought with it a new currency, the Czech Kroen. This endured that everything was dirt cheap. A schnitzel burger set you back about A$1.50. A two course dinner at one of the best Chinese restaurants in town was A$8. Another thing that was very cheap was mail order brides, so we look forward to you all meeting our wives, Maria & Daniella.
Prague has to close to the most picturesque city in the world. It is surrounded by hills, and from the top you get a view that is just sheer beauty. Sitting atop one of these hills is the biggest castle in the world, Prague Castle (it took them 650 to think of a name). The castle is so big that you could run a marathon from one end to the other. You would have to do this 42 times but that is beside the point.
The city is full of old buildings and this, coupled with cobblestone roads makes it feel like you are in a fairytale. There is a huge river that runs through the city, and parks everywhere. There is a saying that goes "Prague is the perfect woman; undescribingly beatiful, cheap and plenty of places to explore.".
There is a still a medievil feel to Prague, and some locals take this to an extreme level. We walked out of our hotel one day to a truly unique sight. Walking down the street was a man with medievil clothes, pieces of armour, a knife in his belt and carrying a longsword. We concluded he was heading to Frodo's house.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly Prague market. On our way there we planned to have a quick look and get something to eat. This turned into 4 hours of fascination. Every second store was selling an array of items that the Australian police would have a heart attack over. Tazers, pepper spray, knuckbusters, knives, katanas, swords, batons, nunchucks, bb guns and lasers. Naturally we bought one of each. At first the clothing seemed mediocre, but then came the moment that changed our lives forever. I was at a stall when the owner asked me if I wanted "t-shirts", I replied with the affirmative and she told me to follow her. Unfortunately Matt didn't see us go into her "storeroom" and he thought he had lost me. This "storeroom was full of designer clothing, shoes and accessories, all new with tags and certificates of authentincy all of which probably stolen. We learned that "tshirts" seemed to be the codeword for these dungeons at a select few stalls. We too full advantage of this abd between us we bought 2x Amarni tshirts, 1x Hugo Boss belt, 1x Amarni Belt, 1x Amarni wallet. It was great fun bartering the store owners and we got them down to less than half of their original offer everytime. For example we got offered CZK 650 (A$35) for one belt, but ended up getting two for CZK 500 (A$14 each). Matt couldn't help himself and bought a bb gun with plastic ammo and has turned our room into a shooting range. One of our wine glasses felt the full brunt of Matt's marksmanship.
Yesterday we explored some of the surrounding hills which included lots of walking and steps. We visited the stadium of Sparta Prague which is where stars such as Czech, Nedved and Rossicky have come from. We also climbed the biggest hill to see the Czech version Eiffel tower. The Czech's do a lot of things better than most but Eiffel tower's are not one of them. On the other hand, good looking women is definitely on of the things they do well.
Currently I am sitting on a bus to Vienna, which is without doubt the most humourous of our lives. This is simply because the bus driver's name is "Zoltan" (Dude where's my car), and we have spent the entire trip making the Zoltan symbol.
ZOLTAN!
