On leaving the airport we were gritted by the driver from the hotel holding the grandest name board I've ever seen - the journey to the hotel was made through recently built roads that led tourists through to a major thoroughfare of all the five star hotels.
On checking in we were greeted to a 20th century newly built hotel that had been made to look like a Edwardian/colonial facade.
On entering the room it was styled. With low floor level furniture except for the bed and the mini bar
There were two four poster beds provided which came in handy for the Miskito nets ( word of warning here - it's a good idea to read the instructions first ) although we lashed together a centre support for the net from a combination of rope and luggage straps, it took several readjustments to get the blessed lined up with the bed - but it did serve us well over the couple of nights we stayed there.
There must be an art of getting into the thing in the dark with all your night time supplies tucked under your arm - because it alluded me and trying to tuck the net back under the mattress was all but damne right impossible - Clare seemed concerned that I was suffering from some type of seizure
On the subject of bites avoidance, I got a couple of bytes in Thailand on the back and one in Cambodia and non in Vietnam ( clare one) so overall we have seemed to have escaped the worse of it with the cream /spray & legging it, routines we strictly followed.
Meeting our guide that evening to take to us to Angle what temple for the sunset was amazing, beyond the experience of witnessing such am event in itself. It was all the unexpected simple things that stood out.
From the guide telling us about his family and how their peoples life have started to improve since the civil wars to kids running after us to sell post cards, you suddenly realise how poor the country is.
On our return to the hotel that evening he took us to a local market which allowed us to walk around to see the many types of stalls but I was quite surprised to see a huge pool filled with fish populated by a few western people having their feet nibbled.
