G'day Mate How ya goin'?
Well I've been in Sydney 5 days now so I thought it was about
time to update
everyone on my time here so far. Good news is, I have a job and
somewhere to
live....yay!!
When I first got to Sydney I really didn't like it at all. I
arrived at 5am
Sydney time but had only had about 2 hours sleep on the plane. I
decided I
would try and last the whole day but eventually after lots of
aimlessly
wondering around in a half asleep daze I thought it was about
time I went to
sleep!
This was at about 3pm. I actually slept the whole night through,
waking
briefly to call home and make sure Mum and Dad knew I was safe.
A total of
16 hours sleep later I was ready to start my first proper day in
Sydney.
Of course I headed straight to the Opera House and Harbour
Bridge, which are
so much smaller in real life! It was a really hot day so I sat
in the
Botanical Gardens for a while to think of an action plan for the
week ahead.
I wasnt really sure if I wanted to stay in Sydney but I also
didnt know
where else I would go so I thought I'd give Sydney a week and
then decide.
I got all my paperwork sorted on Monday and started reading up
on the local
area. One of the beach areas called Manly sounded really nice so
I emailed
my CV to a few Restaurants, Bar and Hotels there. To work in a
bar or a
restaurant over here you have to have an RSA (Responsibility
Serving
Alcohol) certificate. I arranged a course and got into one on
Tuesday. It
was run by a man that was the typical Australian stereotype, he
even said
Streuth a few times! It was possibly the easiest course I have
had to do,
mainly common sense, not serving minors etc plus he gave us all
the answers
to the test questions before we sat it! If only they did that at
Uni!! I had
a voicemail when I had finished from the Manager of Manly
sailing club. I
called him back and arranged an interview for today at 8 am.
Had to get up at 6am today to get there on time as I had to take
a ferry
which takes half an hour. My interview wasnt really like an
interview at
all, the manager basically said I could have a 2 week trial so I
am starting
on Saturday. I also found some accommodation today, it is quite
expensive
but only 5 mins walk from the beach and work. Manly beach is
absolutely
beautiful. It is a surfing beach so that is going to be my next
project when
I have some money!!
Right anyway I have gabbled on for far to long and am going out
to have a G'day Mate How ya goin'?
