It was an early start for the boys yesterday. Rich had booked a racing day thing for them both that started at 8. It meant they had to leave at 7 am. No fear that anyone would be late though as nick was awake at 5.15. He said he was so excited he couldnt sleep. And evidentally, nor can I! He's awake so thats that. I tried in vain to convince him to just lay down and watch tele but no, James Hunt is raring to go! He decides he'll go and make a cuppa and wait. Quietly. But only after he rummaged round to find his clothes, nearly choked me to death with his deoderant, and expected me to find his cardi. All at a ridiculous hour. Finally I wished him luck and I was left in peace. Wide awake, but in peace none the less. While the boys raced around the circuit, me and Billy raced around the supermarket. I'm sure I could navigate these shops blindfolded by now. We had a bbq so we were in search of provisions. And what a good job we did too. Sausages, burgers, kebabs, ribs, salad, rolls, halloumi and massive juicy, vivid pink prawns. Back home and Billy is on a mission to make the place nice ready for the arrival of the others. I was fully prepared to help but she let me off so instead I opted for a nap! I was just getting into the swing of relaxing when our peace was shattered as the boys came home. Nick was like a maniac. He was so excited! Richard didnt have quite so much to say eventhough he had won the medal. Much to Nicks mock disgust. We had to listen while they recited tales of skidding and wheel spins and how no one else was as quick, as skilled, as enthusiastic and such like. Like the dutiful wives we are, we feigned utter amazement and interest in their tales and oohed and ah-ed in all the right places.
Saturday night loads of people came over. There was Rob and Fi, Walt and Alex, some blokes Rich used to work with and some of Bills workmates. There was tons of food but Rich had it all under control. He's only been here 3 years but he finally got it! He managed to do all the cooking and he even managed to mingle! He was remarkably pleased with himself. And rightly so.The BBQ success coupled with the medal from racing had him feeling very pleased with himself.
I met some of Bill, or should I say Bel's workmates. Turns out everyone over here calls Billy, Bel. Apparently Belynda is a really common name in Australia and thats what they shorten it too. Not me though. 20 odd years of being Billy and thats how its gotta stay. I cant cope with changing it now. Bill reckons she prefers Bel cos she never really like Billy anyway. Now she tells me! Her mates must think I'm mad but we'll have to agree to differ. She always has and always will be my Billy.
