Went out this morning just walking around the monastery buildings before 7:30 breakfast. Breakfast is served in a different hall from lunch and dinner. The breakfast area has low wooden ceilings, cozy cottage atmosphere, with wood burning cast iron griddles for us to cook our own eggs/pancakes, and to warm ourselves by the fire after the brisk morning air.
After breakfast we walked one of the many trails here in Caraca National Park, the Cascatinha trail, and found wolf scat, wolf and ocelot prints. Many cool birds this morning, about 58 species in addition to a Guianan squirrel. Bird of the day was the Gilt-edged Tanager, bright yellow head, turquoise breast, lime green and yellow wings with black streaks and a little black chin. He looked like a liitle spot of glittering gold in the middle of a leafy tree. During our afternoon walk we came across half a dozen flitting all around us.
