Hey all....i am soo stuck in bangkok!! the airport has been closed for 5 days now...my flight has been cancelled until further notice!! we went to the qantas office and it was queued out of the door...people have been there for hours!! so ive no idea when ill be getting to aus!! they said that the first flights out are the 4th (if the airport opens tonight!) but theres 5 days of flights been cancelled...so ill be low on the list of priority yet!! boo!! suppose i just need to make the best of a bad situation! the thai government pay you 2000bt per day for being stranded...so that is awesome...and will stop me spending into my budget!! Think ill head up to chang mai!! Love it here though...having an absolute ball!!!
Ok so since leaving surat thani on the 28th, i had to endure 15 hours of hell on the overnight train to get back to bangkok. We arrived at lunch time on the 29th so just spent the afternoon perusing the markets on koh san road. We also booked ourselves some transport up to kancharburi (2 hours north east of bangkok) to go on safari....cost 20 quid!!! bargain!
So we decided to have an early night so we'd be bright eyed and bushy tailed for our 7am pick up!!
The trip to the safari park was by far the best thing ive ever ever done!! When we first got there, we went to see a dog show! (random i know!!) it was like crufts for mongrels!! the wierdest thing ive ever seen!! so we were all a bit disappointed...until the day just got better and better.
We then went to the crocodile wrestling show...with our very own thai steve irwin putting his head in a crocs mouth!! then...wait for it....i got into the ring with him to get a picture!! how i dared do that ill never know...im pretty sure my travel insurance wouldnt have covered my injuries if it had snapped at me!! haha
Then we went to see the elephant show. This i was a little worried about because i hate seeing animals unhappy and i thought it would be cruel...but it was the complete opposite...the elephants loved it and were really well cared for. You really wouldnt believe what they could do!! they walked across a tight rope!!! madness!! you must see the pictures!! then we were allowed to feed them bananas and get photos. One of the trainers called me over and before i knew it the elephant was kneeling down for me to climb on...so i jumped on...with no saddle of anything!! Sarah jumped on too. It was dead hard to balance...and then all of a sudden the elephant started to climb up the steps to get on the tight rope....with me on its back!! i nearly died!! i thought i was going to die!!! we got half way across the tight rope and the elephant decided to do a full turn...honestly my description does not do this experience any justice!! it was absolutely awesome!!
Then we went to see the tigers. We got to sit with them and stroke them. Then when we thought it couldnt get any better, we got taken into this little hut where there were 2 8wk old cubs. We all had a cuddle with them and yes they were the cutest things in the world!! I am covered in scratches now tho...i suppose its a small price to pay!!
We then got on buggies to go around the safari park. We went through enclosures of tigers, bears, bison, lions, zebra and giraffes. We got given buckets of shredded carrot to feed the animals from the bus. When we got to the giraffes you just wouldnt believe what happened...they stuck their heads right in through the windows...so they were practically in the bus with us to get to the carrot. One cheeky giraffe reached in and stole the carrots out of my bucket!! the pictures ive taken really sum up how brilliant this day was!!
Then we headed back on this minibus full of thai people to bangkok. We grabbed some tea and then headed back to the hostel to get ready for a big night out!! It was lizzies bday, so we all decided to glam up...well as best we could with the stuff out of our backpacks!! between us we had hair straightners, a hair dryer, make up and accessories!!
We hit koh san road but decided to drink buckets on the street rather than in bars because they were half the price!! haha. We all sat on these s***ty plastic stools (why we bothered to glam up i dont know!!) and drank the night away. These two little thai kids challenged me to a game of rock, paper, scissors...and beat me...so i ended up having to buy a rose from them!! But they were the sweetest kids..they went to the shop and spent their own money on a bday cake and candles for lizzie and sang to her!! these kids were working on the streets for money, but still paid for a cake!! sweetest gesture in the world!!
A thai guy drew me a picture of me...a little characature of me with a little note on the back saying nice 'nice to meet you, what is your name?'. Probably the nicest way a girl can be chatted up!!
We the joined forces with a couple of guys from munich called max and tom and went to gullivers for a dance...and more buckets!! i rolled into bed at 4am...still with a bucket in my hand...but also with a 12 inch subway!! yes!! and i ate it all (adam if you are reading this i know you'll be proud!! haha). Im pretty sure that sandwich was my saving grace!!
Today has been hectic so far. But i suppose now i know im not going to aus for a while longer...i can make plans for the rest of my time in thailand.
I fully intend on uploading pictures today as im too hungover to do anthing else!! haha.
Fingers crossed the computers will let me upload picture here...i am yet to find a computer fast enough to cope with the 1300 picture ive taken since landing in bangkok!! haha...madness!!
Love to you all
