An Unexpected Journey with Chris Wall
Bangkok - 21st Aug 2013 - 24th Aug 2013
Once arriving in the capital we were hit by the lush afternoon overcast heat! we were quickly directed to the taxi rank que to wait for a driver to collect us, this was my first interaction with a thai and I could already see their goodnature and manners would help me settle in just fine.
On arriving at the famous khaosan road, we located our hotel (rather posh considering only £14 a night), dumped our things and headed out. Hastled by streams of tuk tuk drivers and self proclaimed tailors, all of whom are more than happy to follow you down streets and roads to try and sell their custom, one thing learnt; dont shake their hand, they dont let go!
After quickly gulping down, what I would say is safe, noodles and chicken, we headed to what seemed to be the busiest bar on khaosan for what hoped to be a quick beer then head to the hotel, to catch that long missed sleep! How wrong I was! We met 3 deutch travellers, who had very different intentions for the night ahead! We were soon drinking from buckets filled with rum and lemonade... Before I knew it I was awake in my hotel room at 13:30 (must have been a good night by my standard)!
The next two days were spent looking around the golden city, from gold lampposts to emerald buddahs, watching entire temples being hand painted and the royal guard ceremonial hand over (so impressive!)
As expected the rain arrived late on Thursday, 10 seconds outside and you are wet to the bone! However the rain water is warmer than the hostel showers, so no complaints!
That brings us to now, an early night ahead with an early start to kanchanabury at 7am tomorrow.
Of course a quick mention of the ladyboys; some are so obvious you can see the funny side, when you dont instantly realise it can be quite concerning... especially after you have given them a cheeky wink! .
