Cairns - We landed here only to find out that in the rainy season it rains really damn hard. Consequently, we didn´t do much in Cairns, although there really isn´t much to do here. This however, is the first time I realised that when Australians say it rains all the time in Britain.... they can shut up. The most interesting thing about this place is that it is full of crazy people. We sat down for breakfast one monring in ´crazy corner´. Some man came up to us and said "Dizzee the devil, put a blister in my heel and I was only wearing socks..." Then stared and waited for a response, which of course was, "What do you honestly want me to say to that!?". He left. The five minutes later a defferent man (who had been talking to himself over the course of his breakfast) got up and rode his bike away singing a song about how he was leaving. I felt it was only proper if I sung him a farewell.
Cape Tribulation - We got our camper van, and on the first day decided to drive up north to where captain cook spent ages sailing round or somthing like that. When we arrived to collect the van, there was a notice on the door "turn up naked to collect your van and have the first day for free". As I turned round to see if Freddy and I should utilize this opportunity I was greeted by a set of clothes and a backpack, on turning round again the door was closing and Freddy was inside naked. Saved AUS$36.
We took the van and parked it in a veiw point aware that the rangers (national park rangers not the scottish football team) may well tell us to move on. It was pissing it down with rain and we were there the whole night, but when we told a shop assistant where we stayed she was unimpressed. Nice veiw in the morning though.
Brisbane - Our first real Australian city, found a sign that needed bartenders in a strip bar.. nearly got my working visa there and then. In the end we only stayed here for a few days because we couldn´t drive down as North Queensland was flooding. We got a flight here and picked up our new van, after a night out we decided to drive to the beach, only to realise that we drove 2 hours south and were now on the Gold Coast.
Sunshine Coast - We drove up here after heading south to the gold coast to try to make it for WQhitsundays on Fraser island. We drove really far north for hours only to discover that rainbow bay (the place you get the ferry to Fraser island) was 12 hours south of where Whitsundays is and it has been rained off anyway. We had a good time in rainbow bay anyway. This is where there are pictures of us on the sand that is gradually moving into the rainforest and eating it up.
Other than Rainbow bay, the sunshine coast has many little towns to visit up and down. I was upset because we got to a bead shop one sunday only to discover it was closed, making a bracelet was all I wanted to do that day. We bought a skimboard and are now pros.
