Bula!
Last night we were woken up by thunder and lightening and torrential rain on our little island. It was pretty incredible that the Bure didn't leak and I lay awake for ages watching the flashes of light and listening to it hammer it down…it was very loud and impressive but I have to say the hailstorm in Melbourne definitely prepared us for it!
Regardless of last night's rain we woke up this morning to perfect blue skies and sunshine. We went for breakfast and were immediately distracted by one of the guests who had spotted a baby turtle on the beach.
Apparently because of the storm the turtle had got beached and was struggling to make it's way back to the sea. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen! It was even cute enough to drag Chris away from the breakfast table, which is in itself a wonder! The host helped it to make it back to the sea after naming it Susan and we all cheered when it was safely back in the water…a surreal start to the day!
Breakfast was lovely we had a fresh fruit platter…some of which we couldn't identify?! Followed by toast, freshly baked muffins and then mini pancakes all of which were delicious.
We then decided to go on the snorkelling trip to Turtle Island, which involved getting on a boat and making our way out to near one of the other smaller islands. The reef was fantastic and there was so many fish to look at, we even saw a purple starfish and a funny looking sea cucumber thing, which was cool.
We snorkelled for about an hour and then came back to Navutu where we have spent the rest of the afternoon walking along the beach discovering massive shells, swimming, reading and exploring the rest of the bay. Chris is really getting into the 'Robinson Crusoe' spirit of things by making it his challenge to open a coconut he found on the beach, he eventually managed it and even ate some of it even though it smelt revolting!
This afternoon has been so peaceful and quiet we have sunbathed on our own private beach and pretended we are the only people here shipwrecked. This hasn't been hard as I think I have spoken to less than 8 people all day. We have just watched our first Fiji sunset and it is beautiful.
I think I can safely say you would all love it here
Nite everyone xxx
