Bula from Fiji!
It is official we are in paradise.
When I describe to you the last 24 hours I will try my best not to make everyone hate us even more, but honestly we can't believe it ourselves. Since we arrived in Nadi yesterday we have both stunned into silence (yes even me!).
We arrived at the airport after a pretty short flight of only 2:50 and were greeted by lots of nice looking men wearing skirts smiling and shouting 'Bula/hello', Before we go any further, skirts for men is widely acceptable attire here…Chris isn't convinced yet though but I am working on him, I'm sure he would look good in a flowery number! In the arrivals area there was a trio of men wearing skirts and flowery shirts playing guitars and singing traditional Fijian songs, and they were great…definitely the nicest airport welcome we have ever had.
Onto Blue Water Lodge, by this time it was dark so we didn't get to see much, but we were nicely surprised when we arrived as the place was lovely and had a beautiful pool too.
After having fun shaving off Chris' three-week-old bead we had dinner with a nice couple, and sat and swapped travel stories all evening. Chris by this point was still looking like Freddie Mercury and refusing to shave off the awful moustache! During the meal we were serenaded by yet another skirt wearing, guitar-playing Fijian sat under a brolly of fairy lights! This guy was fantastic and he could even hit the high notes! The pesky albino geckos kept me amused too they were everywhere-see the pics!
This morning we got up super early and caught the bus to Denarau ferry terminal where we were to catch the Yasawa Flyer catamaran.
We were extremely chuffed to find out that we had been upgraded to the 'Captain's Lounge' for the duration of the 4 hour journey and this meant free drinks, pastries crisps etc. We were so made up by this that we immediately started ordering drinks and snacks…we love a good freebie! I felt just a little bit sorry for the other passengers who were either sat outside in the windy rain or crammed in like sheep downstairs!
By the way those of you who have read the Kaikoura blog will be pleased to learn that Chris didn't feed any fish on this particular boat journey yey!
When our stop arrived the captain came to apologise that unfortunately there was no boat from Navutu Stars coming to pick us up…oh no! However, we were picked up a few stops later and boarded a little boat to take us to the island. At this point I left normal life and entered a James Bond movie where we were being taken at high speed with the salt water whipping our cheeks to our deserted paradise island…!
The boat weaved through a couple of small islands and then came around a headland where we saw the beach front Bures and the staff of Navutu standing on the beach ready to greet us! One guy was…you guessed it playing the guitar and the others were singing and clapping, and then as we stepped off the boat feeling like true celebrities (looking like drowned rats from the spray) we were given a coconut drink each.
We were the only two people arriving today and so we found all of this special treatment a little over whelming! Chris is honestly still in a daze, I don't think we can believe where we are!
The host led us to our bure and it is without a doubt the nicest place we have ever stayed. We have a double hammock and our own private pathway to the beach! Inside, the rooms are decorated with beautiful flowers and is set within coconut trees and has big double doors that open out onto our decking where we can sit and listen to the sound of the sea.
I am writing this having just returned from our complimentary massage which was just heaven! We have a nice evening meal to look forward to tonight and then just rest reading and a bit more relaxation…
This is without a doubt the best way to end our travels…In the words of Peter Lewis…Divine!
