Hey there everyone,
I can't believe it has been nearly a month since I last wrote something on my Blog, its crazy. You haven't had chance to hear about my trip to mount Pinatubo! Yes, so this was my second volcano trip, and an active volcano also. I went witha few mates from work and it was fantastic. So the trip started with a 4.30 departure from Manila in our car which was about 2.5 hours to get to the first town. Following this we had an hours wait before we were going anywhere, as you have to get a jeep to the base of the mountain and apparently they were on strike on this day (which I actually only found out when I got back). And if anyone wants a trip to Taal or Pinatubo I can get you a discount off for 1000P! Lol. Whilst we were waiting we did have the joy of watching a chained up monkey getting drunk, and no I am not joking, you can check the pictures, the monkey was literally drinking out of a bottle, very well trained, but I guess he didnt have much else to do as he was chained to a piece of wood about 2 meters long!
Anyways, we decided to do the long walk to Pinatubo, well actually it would be fair to say I decided to and everyone just had to do it too! Sorry guys! It was fab, the jeep took us through where the lava flow had been from the eruption back in 1991, and if you go to Wiki you can get some more detail on that, apparently the impact of that earthquake heated the world by 1 degree. The jeep went through streams and I thought I was going to fall out a few times, actually Francesca nearly did as the back flew open.
So there I was, at the base of the Volcano, and you guessed, I needed the toilet, so I asked the guide where the toilets were, and he said at the top, yes that was a 3 hour walk away, and no there were no trees and the rocks would not have been big enough to hide me exterior, so I climbed the whole volcano needing the toilet :) And yes, I made it! It was a great trek up and took us three hours, though we got to the top and as you will see from the sad faces on the photos it actually started raining. Luckily we had some well deserved ham sandwiches and cokes ready whilst we waited for the rain to pass. It was a spectacular scene with the lake inside the volcano, the water was really warm as we went for a quick paddle (as we brits like to do so much).
Then we started to hear the sky grumbling and didnt want to get stuck in a storm so we made our way down the volcano to a well dersrved shower back at the base town followed by some of the finest philippino cuisine. ;) And after another quick check on the crazy monkey we made our way back to the big city, and that was our day!
I would recommend it, and it is amazing how many philippinos have not done this trek, though I guess we always take for granted what is literally on our doorstep!
I think I will need to try and find another volcano, I seem to be needing more of a challenge here. Anyways I must leave, I need to write another blog, I have been so bad at keeping up with these. So you will be able to read my next update in about half an hour or so (depending on if the internet decides to crash or not!).
Over and out
