Chile 2017
Today we flew another three hours further south to Punta Arenas in Tierra del Fuego. The landscape is flat, more tundra-like, surrounded by water in a mass of islands. We had enough time after landing to stop near a pond to get our first lesson in local waterbirds, including the crested duck.
It is windier, colder, although locals are wading along the waterfront in swimwear in, what must be, frigid water. When we finish dinner at 9:00, the sun is just beginning to set in the near equivalent of the northern hemisphere's midsummer night.
