An amazing day yesterday! After I switched hotels - I'm at Faulty Towers now (more about that later)- I was picked up for my "Flight of the Angels" helicopter tour over Victoria Falls. It was awsome. You could see the whole length which you can't when walking it. It was pretty spectacular although short. A quick 15 minute flight and you're back on the ground. It was my first helicopter ride also. Definately near the top of my list of things I've done so far. Back to my room for a couple hours rest before the next tour - the elephant safari. I finished up booking everything for Cape Town so I feel a little more relaxed. Its a little more booked up than I expected (even the flights) so I paid quite a bit more than if I had booked everything from home. But I didn't quite know where I wanted to go then. The hotel I'm at now is the worst one yet! It had good reviews online so it shows you you can't always believe what you read. The room is yuck, yuck yuck! and the staff are unfriendly (a first!). The price is the same as Zig Zag (where I was yesterday) yet what a difference in lodges! Oh well, they have a nice garden/pool area so I'll spend my time there. About 2:30 I got picked up for the elephants. A group from Canada I had met last night was there also so that was nice to see them again. The elephants are all there because they were raised by humans and then given up when they got big. They can't go back into the wild. They have a large reserve they wander - which is evidant by the tree destuction left behind! They are eating machines and will knock down trees just for the roots which are a treat to them. We went on about an hour walk. You get on them from a platform except for 1 of the elephants (Bob) who wont go in it cuz he thinks he's too big - he is. He kneels down for his riders. It was a great tour but a little uncomfortable. Their quite wide and you feel like you've done the chinese splits when you get off. Drinks and sancks afterwards. "Snack" included fried catepillars. When in Rome....... so yes, I tried it and I have photos to prove it. It was the thought of it that was the hardest. It tasted like a very very very burnt fry. 1 bite and now I can say I've tried it. Met the Canadians for dinner at a posh hotel here - the Zambezi Sun. Nice buffet dinner and really nice company. Dinner was pricey even by US standards but the food was amazing. It was an awesome day and today I think I will just relax and do nothing. I've been going constantly and I think I need a day to rest and get laundry done.
