Well, coming to the end of my first week in hong kong. Can.t believe it.s only been one week- feels like I've been away for ages considering what awful weather you guys are having at home. I've been fortunate enough to spend the last couple of nights in Stanley staying with family friends. The house is to die for and is set in the loveliest coastline overlooking the china sea. Stanley is mainly home to ex pats so it has more of a continental feel to it- lots of cafe culture and western style shopping. I've mainly window shopped and picked up the odd bargain here and there. The temp yesterday wen to 28 * so went down to the beach for a swim. The beach was gorgeous but the water was freezing!!!!!! Still managed a wee lap but not for the faint hearted. Tomorrow I'm heading to Macau. It's only an hour ferry crossing and is apparently where the Chinese go to gamble!! After that I fly to Vietnam for the first leg of my Vietnam/ Cambodia tour. I have really enjoyed hong kong. It's a real nice mix of old and new. Quaint old ferries look onto massive sky scrapers. While the transport systems seem out of date, they run to the exact minute. I have been really impressed with how organised and efficient all the public services are. My flight to Vietnam is about an hour so shouldn't be too troublesome. Photos are stacking up on memory stick but until I find an Internet cafe ( surprisingly few in hong kong) you'll have to wait!
